Putting: Drilling In Its Essential Nature

Most people are scared of golf because they’re scared of the big hits. How the hell do you hit a driver 300 yards in a straight line? What they don’t know is that it’s the shortest, weakest shots - your putts - that ultimately determine your score.

There’s a reason no long-drive champions are on the PGA tour, but the PGA tour has some of the best putters on the planet. The goal of golf is to get the ball in the hole 18 times in as few strokes as possible, and for most golfers, an enormous majority of those strokes will be around the green. Assuming you score a 90 - 18 over par - and two-putt every single green, 36 out of 90 shots - or a full 40% of ALL your strokes - will be putts. Reduce that number to 1.5 putts per green and you’ve suddenly saved nine strokes - which is one hell of a lot mote than you’d ever be able to do with improved ball striking in the short term.

Before we get into the fundamentals of putting, it’s essential that you have the mindset and “spiritual bent” around putting. I’m only half kidding.
